winter waterfall mini-ride

a little ride half way up mount tam to get some water at a frontside waterfall. we were planning on going down south to tunitas creek, and the weatherman said it'd start raining at noon, so we met up at 7am and decided to call it off due to some pretty heavy rain and wind (and also because it was supposed to rain straight for a few days after that).. well of course it was the exact opposite and cleared up around noon, so we left about 1pm.. started coming down pretty good while we were under the redwoods, and wasn't too bad the rest of the way back. it was almost like being indoors during a tornado at times.. that is one thick canopy.

a mount tam, headlands, baker beach, etc.

hello. been riding a bit but i havn't posted anything since our trip to russian river. here are a few photographs for you. enjoy
there's a place we call "the bunker" up on the headlands. it's a 30 minute ride from my front door. i've never seen another human there, and that's what makes it so great.

the tank and the patriot (our city bikes) "sunning" alamo square
a nice view inland from "the bunker" hawk hill is the little forest on the right
turn around..
you can also see the city from the bunker
and the waves are just close enough to hear

this is baker beach, about 10 minutes from the house.

then you have bolinas ridge (or the seven sisters) over on the side of tam about 20 miles from the house
i like to come up here and lay down on the grass. it's about 2000 ft up

this is a little waterfall on the front side of tam. this is the BEST tasting water!
drink up!

Russian River to SF

epic ride. started raining on us in guerneville, then hailing on us on the sonoma coast, and back to some 35 mph winds over on tomales bay.. more hail on the climb out of olema and once we got to fairfax it picked up again with a little rain. more of the same on the golden gate bridge and we ended up having to do some commando style repairs in high winds at the very end of the ride.. those rollers on highway one are NO JOKE. as serious as the big worlds in super mario. was this ride real at all?
back to sam p. for some young redwood panoramics!

we decided to take highway 116 (river road) to shoreline highway (1) to get back to the city.. sonoma coast is quite nice from jenner to bodega bay.. but those highway one rollers?? what? this route was about 95 miles. now i'm having crazy flashbacks to those rollers. unreal.

SF to Russian River (guerneville)

russian river!!
we took the "northern california route" (mostly bike route 5 marin) up to sir francis drake, and out to highway one from there. once we got to valley ford in sonoma, we took freestone valley ford road over to bohemian highway and rode (somehow all downhill) fourteen more miles to highway 116 (river road). took a right and rode into guerneville. from here we went to armstrong redwoods and on to austin creek reserve and for some reason decided to climb up pool ridge (very steep) before getting some food and some sleep.

so the gps for this trip was really messed up riding out there and coming back. at least it recorded the correct route on the map for the ride up, but for the ride back it didn't start until valley ford! what? anyway, riding up there was about 87 miles, and then we went on a 12 mile ride (armstrong and austin creek) when we got up there. russian river is an awesome place.

7 sisters out and back

a little seven sisters (bolinas ridge) out and back. a quick stop at the mountain theatre for some water. some nice winter waterfalls and strong force winds up on the ridge. tam certainly had her "vail" on today. holler at some REDWOODS!
